Saint Rita is patroness of impossible cases. Her elderly parents arranged a marriage for her to a man of violent temper and criminal ways. He promised to reform and all was well for the first month of the marriage but then he returned to heavy drinking and abusive behavior. Rita offered it all up patiently and due to her prayers, her husband converted. Soon after, her children died and she entered the religious life.
Shown in later in her life, we see a woman weakening in body but with a placid strength in her eyes. The mark on her forehead is a wound of Christ from the Crown of Thorns. Italian, 1381-1457
