Rose of Lima was a beautiful girl from Peru who gave her life to Jesus, and instead of marrying, became a nun. While still a young woman, she contracted an illness, and spent much time in her convent cell. From her sickbed she sang praises to God, although someimtes she was too weak to sing. At these times a bird would come and rest on the sill of her window, and sing for her. This is how she spent her last days, taking turns with the bird, singing their praises to God.
