The piercing yet gentle eyes in this image reflect the holy woman, Catherine of Sienna, whose persuasive words and clarity of thought moved thousands to join the cause of Christ, and convinced the Pope to return to Rome from Avignon.
Author of a great theological work, Dialogue, she has been declared a Doctor of the Church. She died in 1380, at the age of thirty-three.
